Sheela (2024)

Sheela brings together six female performers around questions of voice, presence and collective identity. Growing out of an improvisation rooted in historical work-songs, the piece traces how the performers’ individual movements, songs and heritages combine into a shared, interflowing body, and asks how such a body is read and represented on stage. A 55-minute adaptation of a work Fabrice Mazliah originally created in 2021 for the Opéra de Lyon ballet company, Sheela premiered at Frankfurt LAB on November 7, 2024.
